Artist Statement:
I am interested in the repetition and reciprocity between human structures, both within the human body and the body politic. I view both from an architectural perspective, exploring the foundational, structural, and cosmetic tensions between the interior and exterior. My work is informed by narrative art: comics, illuminated manuscripts, and the illustrative advertisements and serials of the Belle Epoque. I see the cycle of Gilded Age inequity and greed repeated temporally, echoing in each previous iteration of historical shortsightedness that leads us inevitably back into wartime. For our current cycle, my work ekes out liminal glimmers of mythical coherence from the shock and awe of our digital roaring twenties.
